Brookwood Students – Fall Break for the Better

StreetWise Welcomes Student Leaders!

In September, Michelle Surma – StreetWise Volunteer and Brookwood High School graduate ran in to her old teacher Mr. Chvatal.  She shared StreetWise and her experiences volunteering and thought it’d be a great place for the current Brookwood students to give back to the community.  John had been looking for an organization that his 100+ students could volunteer, but no one was able to hold that capacity…till he heard of StreetWise.  John got in touch with Chris Powell and planned a day to bring students on their Fall Break (VACATION!) to volunteer at StreetWise and be a part of giving back to our community.  Leading up to their on site project day, they raised funds for the organization and presented the check to the President and StreetWise Founder, Terry Powell, in the sum of 1,000 dollars!  The students helped organize Cedar’s Closet in preparation of the transition of summer clothing to winter clothing.  This was perfect timing for both Brookwood’s Key Club and StreetWise due to currently seeking student leaders in the community to join a board sub-committee focused on giving feedback and planning new programs that current students would be eager to participate in.

StreetWise is very excited with the new Student Leadership Program, and continuing the mission of of helping those in need in our community.  Food insecurity is rapidly growing, and the need is great.  With more Volunteers and Student Leaders our goal is to serve even more families in need and help them move into a state of self-sufficiency.

And a heartfelt Thank You! to Brookwood High School for their generous donation and helping hands!
