Logistics of Love: What Your Support Built in Our Warehouse
How do you move 100,000 lbs of food in a single week? We’ll show you.
Most people see the end result: a family leaving one of our mobile food pantries with a full cart, a neighbor who doesn’t go to bed hungry, and a community that shows up for itself. What most people don’t see is the massive engine room, our warehouse, where that mission comes to life.
A Small Staff. A Massive Mission.
Behind every distribution is a core staff of seven, joined each day by dozens of volunteers who show up and roll up their sleeves. To keep this operation running, we need more than just heart; we need high-efficiency tools.
Thanks to a generous grant from Starbucks, we have officially upgraded our infrastructure. These aren’t just “upgrades,” they are the practical tools that allow our lean team to scale up to meet the growing needs of Gwinnett.
What a Grant Looks Like in Action
The difference is visible the moment you walk through our dock doors. With the addition of new equipment, we are faster, safer, and more organized than ever:
- The Electric Pallet Jack: This was a game-changer. Moving heavy pallets manually was physically draining for our volunteers. The electric upgrade has been a massive relief, especially for our older volunteer base, allowing them to move heavy loads with the push of a button.
- Forklift Scale: Efficiency is key to our inventory management. This scale allows us to weigh and track food donations instantly as they arrive, meaning we spend less time guessing and more time distributing.
- Additional Shelving Units: More shelving means more capacity. We can now store a higher volume of dry goods, allowing us to “stockpile” for high-demand months like summer.
- Extra Refrigerators: Fresh food is dignity. With our new cold storage capacity, we can rescue and distribute more perishable items, keeping produce and dairy fresh and safe for our families.
Donor Dollars at Work, Literally
Transparency matters to us. When you give to StreetWise, you deserve to see exactly what your contribution makes possible. Because of partners like Starbucks, we have a warehouse that runs smarter, a team that can do more with less, and families who receive food more reliably because our infrastructure finally matches the scale of the need.
Come Take a Warehouse Tour
We don’t want you to just take our word for it, we want you to see it.
See the new equipment, meet the “Army of 7” and our incredible volunteers, and watch your donor dollars in action. Tours are open to supporters, partners, and anyone curious about how the mission runs from the inside.
