Do you remember the feeling of walking into your High School Prom?
When the excitement was high, those dazzling dresses and sharp suits are all that was on the mind. Whether you were crowned by your peers as the king/queen or you were first to arrive, the Prom had a way of making you feel as if you were the only person in the room. Suffice to say, a student’s High School Prom is an important rite of passage in their lives and we believe that it can be a wonderful opportunity to help underprivileged Juniors and Seniors have that chance.
So, what exactly is the StreetWise Prom Starganza?
StreetWise Georgia and DFCS partner up to make the dreams of local High School Students come true! We are giving underprivileged Juniors and Seniors from our community an opportunity to attend their School Proms by supplying them with dresses, tuxedos, cosmetics, etc… free of charge!
∗ The Prom Starganza begins when the students arrive at our facility, unaware of the wonder that awaits them! They are welcomed at the door, introduced to their hosts and then a before-shot is taken before they are off on their journey!
∗ Our facility, that has been transformed into a prom wonderland, serves to be the atmosphere in which all of their inhibitions drift away. They pick out their dresses/tuxedos that will then professionally tailored to them.
∗ Then, a team of professional hair and makeup artists go to work, making sure all that attend are going to look their best! Accessories and relationships are found together during this time of preparation for the biggest night of the year!
∗ After all of the styling and dressing is complete and the friendships have been made, we make them feel like the center of attention one last time with a final photograph of their look for the big day!
∗ They may have come through those doors with their heads hung low, not sure what to make of this thing called a “Starganza”, but when they walk out a few hours later they will know that they are not just another young adult in the “system”. They will have been told (and shown) that they matter more than what they may have been previously told.
∗ And then, they will still walk through the doors at their respective Proms full of anticipation, not sure what to make of all the decorations and those dazzling dresses. But this time, they will do so with a chin up instead of eyes down and confidence in-hand.
How to Get Involved
Specific Items Needed:
- Formal Dresses
(no more than 3 years old, excellent condition)
- Accessories
- Jewelry
- Formal Shoes
- Wraps
- Evening Purses
- Suits and/or Tuxedos
- Men’s Dress Shirts
- Men’s Dress Shoes
- Ties/Bow Ties
Donations may be dropped off at our Distribution Center
On or before March 17th, Mon-Fri 9:30am-4:30pm
Volunteer Sign-Ups begin three weeks before the event
Prom Starganza 2016 will be held on
Friday & Saturday, March 18th/19th!
